Expert Firearms Instructor

Brady Phelps brings a unique training style that compliments his friendly and approachable demeanor. His 16 years of smalls arms experience is rooted in multiple live-fire engagements during the Global War on Terror, but has since matured from the frantic and exaggerated, to precise and meaningful. His goal is to create an environment where the student will become adept in economy and purpose, yet still nurturing creativity and inevitably building confidence.

Brady is an industry recognized physical security practitioner and consultant. In 2017, he was recognized by Security Systems News as “Top 20 Security Professional Under the Age of 40” and he holds all three ASIS International board certifications in security management, the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), and Professional Certified Investigator (PCI). Brady has specialized his practice and services to be scalable to both the fortune 500 corporation to the concerned homeowner. He has developed and implemented multi-faceted Active Shooter and Workplace Violence Programs that include awareness training, threat and vulnerability assessments, plans, and task execution assistance.

Such an amazing class. Safety was prioritized and always reminded and monitored. Brady was such a knowledgeable instructor who really took his time with me. Brady and the atmosphere he created made for such a relaxed and progressive class. I can’t wait to go back!

I took the 4 hour pistol course and it was outstanding. It’s been years since I’ve been to the range and was extremely rusty. Brady and his team were very professional and understanding. The course was extremely detailed, focusing on the fundamentals. There’s no question you’ll get the best training with Southwest Tactical.

I already have my CCW but took this class to sharpen my skills as I don’t shoot my gun often. Felt very confident with the main instructor, Brady, because of his military background. I found him to be very knowledgeable, patient and an excellent teacher who explained each drill and then demonstrated it. I highly recommend Southwest Tactical Defense to anyone interested in learning how to handle a gun or just sharpen the skills you already have learned

This team knows what they’re doing! The staff puts safety first and Brady is a top notch instructor! He is thorough, detailed and easy to follow. I took Pistol Confidence and would encourage everyone to take this class, even if you are not a beginner, it is a great opportunity to fine-tune skills. It was a great day!

Great up and coming training company. Guys are very friendly and personable. The atmosphere SWTD puts on is very much so about including shooters of varying skill levels, in contrast to other groups I've seen which I could imagine could be intimidating for newer shooters. I would definitely recommend them and can't wait to shoot with them again!

These guys can train anyone at any level! Had a great time at their afternoon and evening shoot with night vision. Super well built target systems. They can accurately assess a person and give insightful input!

Took Pistol Confidence class with Brady. So valuable! He covered so many things I didn’t know I didn’t know. He’s very thorough, patient and supportive. Left the class with increased confidence and accuracy with my handgun. Can’t wait to take the next level. Definitely recommend this class!

I took the women training class from Brady and Southwest. It was a great combination of intro to pistol and very relevant to the unique situations women may find themselves in. Brady perfectly blends reality with effective instruction. Let's get an Advanced Ladies Class going!

Took an intermediate pistol class and it was great. Brady is a knowledgeable coach and excellent marksmen. He helped me dial some things in that noticeably improved my accuracy.I like that there were far more experienced shooters than myself taking the class. Tells you something about the caliber of instruction. Definitely plugging into more classes. Stoked.

We had instructor R.I.P over to do a threat assessment for some of our homeowners. Every owner we introduced him to was thrilled beyond belief. This is top notch first class training everyone should experience.
